Abstract
Cet article propose une étude du rituel du Stumbālī (communauté noire afro-maghrébine) de la ville de Sfax en Tunisie. L'analyse se concentre sur l'articulation de la dimension thérapeutique de ce rituel avec la pratique musicale. Les caractéristiques musicales structurelles sont corrélées aux aspects rituels, notamment la danse et la transe, en tenant compte de l'intégration du système de croyance inhérent à cette tradition, relevant à la fois des dogmes de l'Islam et des directives de l'ascétisme soufi et de l'animisme maraboutique.
This article contributes a study of the ritual of the Stumbālī (an Afro-Maghrebi community) of Sfax, Tunisia. The analysis concentrates on the links between musical practice and the therapeutic dimension of this ritual. The structural characteristics of the music are correlated with ritual aspects, notably dance and trance, while accounting for integration of the belief system that is inherent in this tradition, and at the same time noting dogma from Islam along with directives from Sufi asceticism and from Marabout animism.
