Abstract

Cet article propose une analyse comparative de la facture du sanṭūr (cithare à cordes frappées), de la disposition de ses cordes et de son accordage, entre la tradition du maqām 'irāqī et celle du radif iranien. Chemin faisant, sont mises en corrélation les différences observées à ce titre avec un certain nombre de disparités inhérentes à la grammaire et au style musicaux, que l'on observe entre ces deux traditions. Il s'agit surtout de l'usage différentiel des processus d'altération des hauteurs, d'octaviation et de cadence, qui a pour conséquence une tendance à une verticalisation du jeu instrumental dans le sanṭūr iraqien et à une horizontalisation de ce jeu dans le sanṭūr iranien. Ces considérations sont mises à profit dans l'élaboration de deux variantes inédites de cet instrument, la première étant destinée à l'interprétation de la tradition musicale arabe du Mašriq non iraqien, la seconde étant vouée à soutenir l'initiation des enfants à cette tradition, dans le cadre de l'enseignement scolaire de base.

This article proposes a comparative analysis of sanṭūr’s organology, the arrangement of its strings and its tuning, between the tradition of maqām ‘Irāqī and that of the Iranian radif. Along the way, the differences observed in this respect are correlated with some differences inherent in musical grammar and style, which are observed between these two traditions. It is mainly the differential use of the processes of alteration of pitches, octaviation and cadence, which results in a tendency towards a vertical style of playing the Iraqi sanṭūr and a vertical style of playing the Iraqi sanṭūr. These considerations lead to the development of two new variants of this instrument, the first being intended for the interpretation of the Arabic musical tradition of non-Iraqi Mašriq, the second being dedicated to the initiation of children into this tradition. as part of basic school education.
